Since I can remember, I’ve always had an urge to help others. Some years ago, when my grandmother suffered a stroke that left her without speech and the ability to walk, I was given the opportunity to assist with her care at a rehab facility.
That experience ultimately opened my eyes to the amount of care required, with the hope of getting back as much independence as possible.
A few years later, my mother died from cancer. She transitioned without a will, a living will, a trust, or an updated insurance policy. The struggles my sister and I encountered while trying to settle her estate, created a second layer of heartache and pain.
The necessary tools and resources for advanced care planning were just plain limited, hard to understand, and not easy to discuss.
My own experiences have encouraged me to create a space with helpful resources and tools required for a better everyday life for the senior community and their caregivers.
